JORGE TORRES – Burbank, California Tech ops
Jorge has been with the FAA since 1999 and started out at LAX and later transferred to Bob Hope Airport in Burbank, CA. Jorge has been at Burbank for 15 years.
Prior to working for the FAA, Jorge worked in movie theatres selling tickets and concessions. He’s also worked for a major cable tv provider as a customer service representative. While holding his two jobs he was also completing his college education.
Jorge holds many certifications on several systems from various disciplines with the FAA. He performs periodic maintenance and certifies systems that require such. In Communications he works on GRT/GRR radios, CM 200 radios, CM 300 radios, ETVS, VSBP and various fiber optic systems. In Navigations he works on DVOR, DME, and MARK 1F ILS. In Environmental he works on SX, DC BUS, VASI and EATON 9390 UPS.
Jorge enjoys his day to day environment. One of the most interesting days can be when working on the ILS, for example, there is a lot of coordination that takes place. OCC contacts ATC about equipment that will be taken out of service. ATC will send out broadcasts so that pilots can be aware. So literally when he works on something, people from the ground up get notified.
He has traveled to Oklahoma City over 15 times in the course of
his FAA employment. At first, he hated it but has since come to think of Oklahoma City as his second home. He enjoys venturing out with classmates and exploring popular areas and eating establishments. Jorge has stayed at Isola Bella, Meridian Mansions, Walnut Gardens and Country Inn and Suites. If you like to cycle, he suggest that you bring your bike to Oklahoma City! There are many nice riding paths on the Oklahoma River, Lake Hefner and Lake Overholser. Most airlines will only charge you $75 or less to check a Bike bag in and it’s worth it! He also suggest to travelers visiting Charlestons Restaurant for the prime rib and Saltgrass for the amazing steaks as well chips, queso and brisket to boot!
In his spare time Jorge enjoys anything related to slight of hand magic, eating steaks, drinking coffee, cycling, running and weight lifting. Jorge loves to gloat that he’s a happily married man to his most beautiful wife and the proud parent to his 2 year old son and 6 year old daughter. Welcome Jorge to the FAA TODAY family!
